Privacy Policy for Verifyscams.com and Verify Scams App

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we may collect basic personal information such as your name, email address, and profile picture. This information is used to manage your account and enable community participation.

1.2 User Contributions

Content you submit, including posts, questions, answers, or comments, may be visible to other users. Any personal information you choose to include in such content is shared at your discretion.

1.3 Installed Applications Data (App-Specific)

The Verify Scams app may access information about installed applications on your device using Android’s query_all_packages permission. Only application package names are accessed. We do not collect app content, usage behavior, personal files, or user-generated data from installed applications.

This information is used solely to identify potentially risky, scam-related, or harmful applications and provide security insights and scam detection results.

1.4 Secure VPN (VpnService) and Network Data

The Verify Scams app includes a Secure VPN feature implemented using Android’s VpnService API. This feature creates an encrypted connection between your device and the VPN endpoint to enhance network security.

The Secure VPN is used to secure network traffic on public or unsecured Wi-Fi networks, reduce exposure to phishing attempts, and support safer browsing.

Crucial Note: We do not inspect, log, or sell users’ browsing activity through the VpnService.

1.5 Smart Notification Shield (Notification Access)

The Smart Shield feature uses Android's NotificationListenerService to analyze incoming notification snippets from messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp, SMS, Gmail) for scam attempts and phishing links.

PII Redaction: Before any notification body content is processed, our Data Masking technology automatically redacts sensitive personal identifiable information (PII) such as bank card numbers, OTPs (One-Time Passwords), and emails contained within the message text.

Sender Identification: To accurately detect spoofing and phishing, the app may send the sender's identifier (such as an email address or phone number) to our secure servers. This metadata is used exclusively for security mapping and reputation analysis against known scam databases. We do not store original, unmasked message content on our servers, and this data is never used for advertising.

1.6 Location Data

The app may request access to your device's location (Fine and Coarse) and nearby Wi-Fi devices. This data is used to provide region-specific scam intelligence and to verify the security of the Wi-Fi networks you connect to. Location data is processed locally where possible and is not used to track your movements or for marketing purposes.

1.7 Contact and Phone State

Access to your Contacts and Phone State is used to identify unknown or suspicious numbers during calls or messaging, helping to flag known scam numbers in real-time. We do not upload your contact list to our servers or share it with third parties.

1.8 Media, Files, and Microphone

To provide Malware Scanning and Image Analysis, the app may request access to your files, photos, and microphone. This allows the app to scan files for threats and analyze voice or image-based scam attempts. We only access files you explicitly choose to scan or those identified by our real-time protection system as potentially harmful.

1.9 Subscriptions and Payments

When you purchase a subscription, payment is handled securely via the Google Play Billing system. We do not store your credit card details on our servers. We only receive a confirmation of purchase and a transaction ID to manage your subscription status.

2. Purpose of Data Use

  • Detect scams, phishing links, malware, and potentially harmful applications
  • Analyze incoming notifications in real-time to provide immediate security alerts
  • Analyze risky permissions and system-level security concerns
  • Provide personalized security insights and alerts
  • Enable community interaction and content moderation

3. Malware Detection & System Scanner

Verify Scams includes malware detection and system scanning features. These scans do not access personal files, private content, or user communications.

4. Data Retention

Collected data is retained only for as long as necessary to provide scam detection, security analysis, and app functionality. Data is securely deleted or anonymized in accordance with industry-standard practices.

5. Information Sharing

5.1 Public Content: Community posts are visible to other users.

5.2 Service Providers: We may use trusted third-party service providers for hosting and analytics.

5.3 Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law.

6. Data Security and Accuracy Disclaimer

Security Measures: We implement technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption during data transmission and restricted access to stored data. However, despite these measures, no system can guarantee 100% security. You use the platform and provide information at your own risk.
